The Background

In May 2007 the Austrian Federal Commission of Health started a huge IT-project called ELGA. The task was to define an electronic health record for all citizens (based on the IHE regulations). [more]

The Code

Images, reports and health records are going online more and more. Only standardized coding systems give the chance to retrieve pictures out of archives outside the own organisation in an automatised way. The APPC was defined to support this need. [more]

Standardisation

Presently we are seeking to formally integrate the APPC into the framework of HL7. The maintenance of the code will be provided by the BURA. Qualified input of all persons interested (preferable in English language) will be pooled. In an annual rhythm this input will be evaluated and as far as necessary an extension of the code will be published on the Internet.

Use of the Code

The code is intended for public use, free of charge and available over our website. Its use is provided free of charge explicitly for commercial use and recommended to be implemented in radiologic systems for future enhancement of diagnostic radiological work. The copyright is held by the BURA.

For everyone interested in further development of the code, a mailing list is provided. In case of an update all persons enrolled in that mailing list will be informed.
